THE SAN VINCENZO PIER: A RESOURCE FOR THE CITY OF NAPLES
OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS
Following the agreement between the City of Naples, the Italian Navy and the Port Authority System of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea signed last June 28, a protocol is being implemented to gradually return the Pier to the citizens.
To guide the process and update this path, the results of the four collaborative design workshops “Cities from the Sea: City-Port System and Waterfront as Commons”, organized by CNR IRISS and Department of Humanities of the University of Naples Federico II, aimed at a shared valorization of the San Vincenzo Pier, will be discussed.
The project proposals, resulting from the interdisciplinary collaborative experience of urban planners, architects, psychologists, and verified with representatives of academics and researchers, policy makers, representatives of institutions, entrepreneurs, and associations, were summarised in a master plan that will be presented at the conference.
The first results of the research carried out by the Giustino Fortunato University on the use of the pier as a berth for mega yachts and cruise ships will also be shared.
